GHAZIABAD: A sharpshooter of the Sunder Bhati gang, who was carrying a reward of Rs 70,000 on his head, was arrested on Saturday after a brief encounter near a mall in Kaushambi, police said.
According to police, Ashok Gurjar was nabbed after a heavy exchange of fire with him and two of his associates. “The city police crime branch had received a tip-off that three armed men in a Maruti Alto car were driving back and forth at the rear of a mall near Kaushambi.
When a crime branch team tried to approach the trio, they fired at them,” said Ghaziabad Police PRO Brijesh Kumar.
Kumar said that a total of 50 bullets were fired by both sides during the shootout and the two associates managed to flee. “Gurjar was nabbed and a carbine, two pistols and several bullets were seized from him. The car was also seized.”
Police said that Gurjar carried a reward of Rs 50,000 for his arrest in Uttar Pradesh and Rs 20,000 in Uttarakhand. At least 17 cases of loot, dacoity and murder are registered against him in Ghaziabad, Hapur, Gautam Budh Nagar, Bulandshahr and Dehradun, the cops said.
